When compared to other European countries the UK is lacking behind with the number of completed self builds.

The government has been trying to combat this with several incentives which try to increase the number of self build projects.

Right to Build was launched in 2014 with the aim to help self builds actually get started.

April 2016 saw the launch of councils having to keep a register of those interested in self build hoping that this should mean they gain knowledge of the amounts of land that will be required in the future.

It is hope expected that self build will increase by around 5% during 2016. Future rises should then be around seven to ten percent.
