A serial self builder, Alexa Ergatoudis, has created an open space loft style living home in Surrey in a narrow space between to period properties in a conservation area new Hampton Court.

The plot was bought with planning permission for a four bed house, three visits to the planners and the traditional exterior appearance with a New York loft style interior was approved for building.

The aim was to create an open plan home with the ability to see from one end to another. Though open plan there are structured sections of living spaces, each designed for their purpose.

The same wooden flooring has been used throughout but these are laid in different directions and patterns to help distinguish spaces.

The kitchen/diner boasts a double height ceiling with exposed structural steel beams and an exposed brick wall. Large amounts of glass have been used to join the house to the garden but not in the common sense, no bi-folding doors have been used, everyone uses these now.
