Self building is the ream of many, but when you put it into reality it really does need to be a success.
Some schemes are in place to help find the correct building plot for your project, it's never an easy task but it certainly shouldn't be quite as difficult as it has been in the past.
Get yourself on the registers and research yourself too.
Do get help
There are many annual shows and exhibitions and workshops, for example contact the National Self Build and renovation Group or the National Custom and Self Build Association .
As more people self build more and more is available to help you through the processes.
getting a self build mortgage is another aspect of the build. These normally consist of stage payment, each time a stage is completed and approved by the lender they will release another chunk of money for the build to use to continue.
Once complete a competitive mortgage should be researched for the reminder of the monies to be paid.
Claim back you VAT
As a self builder you need to save every single receipt with tax added and keep them all together in a very safe place. Once the build is complete the VAT paid along the way can be claimed back, but this can only be done once and within three months of the build completing, ensure you claim every penny you can on your first and final claim.
