Architects TDO were appointed to design a home for a couple who live primarily alone in an old cottage but who needed room for when the family return and stay.

The 19th century cottage already had some extensions which were the first to be demolished leaving just the original cottage and a wall of an outbuilding.

When family arrive and numbers expand the older part of the cottage will be used but the new plywood extension is where the couple will live most of the time.
The new build extension was designed to be formed from two boxes which created the master bedroom, kitchen, dining room, study and living room. With the master bedroom being where the join between and and new using floor to ceiling glazing which are housed in the plywood frame. TDO frequently use plywood in their designs because of it many positive properties including cost and flexibility in design.

There is a purposely blatant difference between the old and new - the old has low ceilings and darker spaces whilst the new is bright, high ceilings with the plywood frame and use of plywood being a main feature.
